About The Project
This project expanded the City of Vancouver’s capacity to capture heat from wastewater and use it to heat the False Creek neighbourhood. In most neighbourhoods this remains an untapped resource, but the City of Vancouver is committed to expanding their low-carbon initiatives through the use of this renewable resource.
The False Creek Energy Centre previously had one 3 MW heat pump that recovered heat from sewage to provide space heating and hot water to buildings connected to the Neighbourhood Energy Utility. The Low Carbon Expansion project scope included two additional 3.3 MW heat pumps to recover additional heat from sewage.
Division 15’s scope was installation of 18” welded sewage piping within the facility connecting the new heat pumps to the forcemain complete with screening units and pumps and 10” fully welded district energy piping complete with distribution pumps as well as refrigerant, vent, and drain piping.
